The plan: pick some apples in the orchard, enjoy the views, walk on the 2 mile trail through orchard, and check out all the yummy food at the apple barn.
I don’t know how much it costs to pick apples (because its impossible to get ppl at Carter Mountain on the phone) but bring about $10 to be safe or use your best judgment depending on if you want to get any of the other goodies or crafts as well. We will probably be back before 6pm but I know that will be the absolute latest we leave because the orchard closes at 6.

Club provides: transportation (it’s only about a 10 min drive so gas is not reimbursed for volunteer drivers)

What to bring: about $10 for buying apple stuff (probably you won’t spend it all)

Info about Carter Mountain: Starting in September, you can pick your own apples from the orchard or select your own apples from the barn. We offer over a dozen varieties including Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Winesap, and Fuji. We also have fresh Apple Cider, home made apple cider donuts, fresh baked apple pies, apple caramel cookies, and hand-dipped ice cream just to mention a few things. Pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn and hayrides begin in October.

At the top of the mountain is a historic apple barn which is the center of our activities. There you’ll find the market, gift shop and bakery. Breath-taking views from the market, as well as from an observation deck, showcase over forty miles of the local countryside and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

We also have available a walking trail throughout the orchard. The trail covers about 2 miles so wear your walking shoes and enjoy a brisk (or leisurely) hike on the mountain.
