Corner Of Echols Dorm
Echols/dropped off where needed
Ivy Creek Natural Area, Earlysville Road, Charlottesville, VA, USA
Join us Sunday morning for a quick birding trip to Ivy Creek Natural Area! Birding is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the natural world, and I think it’s worth trying at least once. Ivy Creek is only 15 minutes away and seems to be one of the biggest bird hotspots in the area. There have been lots of dope species logged there recently, including some owls and lots of birds of prey. Fingers crossed that we’ll also see some cool species.
Ivy Creek has several interconnected trail loops, all of which are relatively short (about 1 mile) and easy. Several of the trails go out to the river, so we will try to see some water birds as well. No prior birding experience is required, just be ready to stop a lot to look at birds and nature! The only equipment necessary is a pair of binoculars, but thanks to the gear room, we will have enough pairs for everyone to have their own. We will bring them for everybody and hand them out on the trip.
Also, it’s worth downloading the Merlin Bird ID app before you come. It’s very useful for identifying the birds and we use it a lot.
The plan:
8:00 am – leave Echols (birds are most active in the morning!)
8:15 – start walking and BIRDS
10:15 – leave
10:30 – return to Echols (scuttle off)
You shall bring:
-yourselves
-water perhaps
-warm clothes
