OLD RAG SUNSET

OVERVIEW

Feeling excited the sun no longer sinks below the horizon at 5pm?? ME TOO!! To celebrate this newfound evening light Paulina and I are planning on bopping up old rag for a spectacular sunset hike this Monday.

Whether you’re an old rag veteran or have never heard of this mysterious rock we want YOU to come join us! Old rag is a ~9ish mile loop with ~2,400ft in elevation gain and some spunky rock scrambles near the top. This hike is not incredibly challenging, but use your own personal judgment on if you feel up for it (some of which will be in the dark!). Weather on Monday is looking chilly but sunny

The plan:
– Leave Echols at 3:45 pm sharp
– Arrive at trailhead at 4:45, get hiking by 5pm
– Arrive at summit, take in the wonders of the sun
– Jaunt down back to our cars and hit the road ~10 pm
– Arrive back in cville (hopefully) before 11:30 pm

What to Bring:
– Good hiking shoes
– Layers! (It’s going to be chilly on monday)
– WATER (at least 1 liter)
– SNACKS 😛
– A headlamp! (Can be checked out from gear room)

If you get off the waitlist, please be aware that you will be responsible for purchasing a $1.00 ticket for March 28th from this website: https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/10088450/ticket/10088451. Please do this as soon as we take you off so they do not sell out of tickets!
