Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Upper Hawksbill Trailhead Parking, Upper Hawksbill Trail, Luray, VA, USA
Greetings Crunchy Comrades,
Just because Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and went back into his hole, doesn’t mean we have to! Join us in simply ignoring that there are 6 more weeks of winter and start your week summiting Shenendoah’s highest peak. Hawksbill Mountain summit has an elevation of 4,051ft and a 360 degree panoramic view. We’ll be hiking the upper hawksbill trail which is the slightly longer but slightly more flat of the two hawksbill summit trails. You can see the trail details here: https://www.hikingproject.com/trail/7012060/upper-hawksbill-ascent
Since the hike is in Shenandoah, we will be adding people off the waitlist as as have enough SNP passes and drivers.
Here’s the plan:
4:50 am Meet at Echols
5:00 am Leave Echols
6:25 am Arrive at the trailhead, and begin hiking the 1.1mi to the top
7:00 am Summit and watch the ‘rise
~7:12 am Sunrise~
7:55 am Back at the trailhead
9:40 am Return to Charlottesville (with traffic)
Bring:
-Warm clothes (the summit is always colder than the rest of the world so bring layers)
-Headlamp
-Hiking shoes
-Water (1-2L)

Peace, love, and dirt,
