Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Roan Mtn
According to a UNC professor in 1836, “The top of the Roan may be described as a vast meadow without a tree to obstruct this prospect, where a person may gallop his horse for a mile or two with Carolina at his feet on one side and Tennessee on the other, and a green ocean of mountains rising in tremendous billows immediately around him”
Sounds pretty neat so let’s go see it! Because this is for Friday evening, we’ll head to the trail straight from Charlottesville. We’ll leave Echols at 2. When we get to the trailhead, it’s just 0.7 miles to the top, so it’ll be 1.4 miles round trip.
Bring some layers, it might be windy at the top.
Remember to bring all of the stuff you need for the rest of the weekend too!
Afterwards, we’ll head to the campsite and meet up with everyone.
