Sunday Morning Hike

OVERVIEW

It’s supposed to be 57 and sunny on Sunday here in Charlottesville, so let’s celebrate the beautiful fall weekend by heading out to Devil’s Marbleyard!

Since we’ll have Daylight Saving’s Time providing us with an extra hour for sleep, we’re going to go ahead and meet at 8:30 a.m. (which will really feel like 9:30…bonus!). The drive will be somewhere around a 2 hours, so get ready to do a mini road trip.

There are a couple actual trails to go on according to hikingupward.com but I am going to reserve the right to make this a trip mostly for playing around in the boulder field, which is the most well-known part of this particular hike. This means you should come on this trip if you’re the type of person who enjoys hiking more for the adventure and discovery aspects than the distance aspect. The boulder field has many different sizes of boulders. I imagine we’ll play around, explore, and then take a break for lunch. After lunch, we’ll play around some more; we can explore down one of the trails as long as we keep track of the time.

We should be there for about 3 hours and then we’ll head back to Cville in time to arrive around 4 p.m.

I will give preference to those who are newer to the club and who have been waitlisted more often. I want people to have a chance to experience what the club has to offer.
