An Easy Relaxing Day Hike…

OVERVIEW

This is for people who want to take a meandering hike to just enjoy the outdoors before the weather turns bad.

This is a 5 mile loop that combines the two trails. White Rocks Falls is “a most magical place” according to the 50 Hikes in Northern Virginia book. We can stop and eat lunch here. After going to the falls, we will ascent back up to the Blue Ridge Parkway about 1.5 miles from where we parked. On the other side, is the Slacks Overlook Trail which seems to follow the ridge for a ways through “a mountainside environment” and many berry bushes and takes up back to our cars.

Like the title says, this will be a nice relaxing day hike. I am going to bring some plant & tree identification books so we can learn about our surroundings and appreciate them all that much more.

Club provides: seat in a car, gas money, fun
You provide: sturdy hiking shoes or boots, layers (remember how the weather can change this time of year), rain gear, bagged lunch, water (at least 1 L), any books you have that may prove interesting in learning about the environment

We will meet at 10:00 at Echols Dorm and proceed from there. It should take about 45 minutes to reach the trailhead and the hike should last 3-4 hrs. I am going to set the trip size to 5 (my car’s capacity) and can add more as drivers sign up.

Also, don’t forget a camera… it should be beautiful, particularly in the hardwood forest during the 2nd half of the hike.
