OVERVIEW

Take a break from studying, or start your day off with a invigorating run.

Distance: 3.2 miles
Speed: Whatever works for you
Difficulty: First 1.6 miles are a gradual uphill
Weather: Sunny and high 30s, low 40s

We’ll drive from Echols to the base of Carter Mountain/Monticello, just off Rt. 20. From there we’ll park and run up the Monticello trail, a gravel trail mixed with wooden, boardwalk style bridges up to the entrace to Monticello. If we feel good we can try to see Monticello itself, or just head back down (we won’t be taking the tour inside, however). Regardless, the views on the way up (now that there are no leaves) are fantastic – you can see all of Charlottesville. It is uphill, but it’s gradual and almost everyone on past trips has been able to run the whole way.

Dress warmly and for wind if there’s any. The trail is shaded from the morning sun, so it’ll be relatively cool. Bring a bottle of water if you so desire. We’ll probably be back before 10:30, but that’s the absolute latest. BE THERE AT 9, WE LEAVE AT 9:01.

Note: It’s a 6-mile drive, each way, so the club will NOT pay for gas if you drive, although it is still appreciated.
