Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Summersville, WV
Want to learn how sport climb? We’ll head out to Summersville Lake early on Sunday and get a head start on the rest of the climbers. There are plenty of 5.7s, 5.8s, and 5.9s to work on leading.
We’ll go over the basics of lead belaying, how to place quickdraws, clip the rope, fall, repell, and clean. This trip is appropriate for anyone who can climb 5.9 without falling on top rope and who really wants to learn how to lead sport. I will waitlist everyone, and add you on after I’ve checked that you qualify (first come first serve still applies).
You may also join if you are interested in helping teach.
We’ll leave Charlottesville Saturday evening and return Sunday evening. Please don’t join if you have time restrictions on Sunday night.
*** Trip subject to good weather. If it looks bad Sunday, I’ll make the trip for Saturday instead.
What to bring: climbing & camping gear, 2 liters of water, snacks, lunch for Sunday, money for dinner Sunday night, camera, plenty of layers, rain jacket, and sunscreen
