New Year’s Day Paddle

OVERVIEW

Start 2009 off right with a New Year’s Day paddle on the James River through downtown Richmond. This is a class III-IV run, so you should have good boat control in whitewater and a solid roll. The water and air temp will both be cold so you need to be comfortable on whitewater to attend this trip.

We will meet at noon at the 14th Street takeout in Richmond. I am in Richmond, so I will try to organize a carpool from Charlottesville if there is demand. You will need to provide all of your gear, including boat, paddle, spray skirt, pfd, helmet and cold weather gear. It will be cold so I suggest at least a dry top and lots of layers. Pogies, helmet liners, etc. are also nice. I do have some extra gear, so please let me know if you would like to go but are missing something. Also, be sure to bring snacks and water for the river.
