Saint Mary's Wilderness
Sunday is supposed to be a little cooler and hiking alongside the St. Mary’s River to a waterfall and deep swimming hole offers a chance to get cooler yet in some of the clearest, most refreshing water I’ve ever seen in Central Virginia. It’s a rocky trail with multiple stream crossings so good hiking shoes and a walking stick or poles are recommended.
It’s about a 6 mile hike to the falls and back, but if it gets too hot we’ll stop at a closer swimming hole. Wild grapes and edible berries also line the trail in spots, so we’ll stop on occasion if any are ripe or if we encounter other edible plants of interest.
Please bring: 2 liters of water, bug repellent, a lunch, sunscreen, and, if you want to swim, a swimsuit.
Club provides a seat in a car and gas money for the trip.
