Ye’ Ole Faithful: Ragged Mountain Sunset Paddle

OVERVIEW

Don’t let February weather in the high sixties be cause for climate anxiety and cognitive dissonance — let it be an occasion to bask in the natural wonders of C’ville while your workload is still light. Wait a second, loopy old fourth year, what natural wonders does C’ville have, closer than Humpback and Shenandoah?

Lean in close, young grasshopper, and let me tell you a family secret: a mere 10 minute drive from Grounds is the majestic land of Ragged Mountain: a vast, picturesque lake enveloped by miles of forested trails. It draws minimal crowds and is known for its exquisite sunsets. It is the source of drinking water for all of C’ville, and a source of immense joy for many an ODC member.

TL,DR:
Let us paddle on the reservoir and watch the sun paint it fiery hues. Our vessels can be a combination of canoes, kayaks, and Stand Up Paddleboards. The trip can be casual and go-at-your-own-pace; you need not have paddling experience. You’re also welcome to come along & hang out (set up a hammock, sit at the lake’s edge, hike around, run) even if you don’t wanna be out on the water.

The sun sets at 5:40. Let’s leave the Shred Shack at 4:20, and be back by 6:30.

Logistics:
-We have a canoe stationed at Ragged that can fit 3 people. I can carry one boat atop my car and a couple of those tiny kayaks inside. We can easily bring Stand Up Paddleboards. If you have a car and any capacity to transport people or gear, you’ll be showered in gratitude.
