Ski Canaan and Timberline

OVERVIEW

It looks like nature has decided to give skiing on the east coast a chance. If current conditions keep up, resorts should be able to make a reasonable amount of snow, and with any luck, nature may even lend a helping hand.

I’d like to try a couple resorts that are less visited by our club: Canaan Valley and Timberline! It’s been forever since I’ve skied Timberline, and I haven’t checked out Canaan, but both have college student pricing on lift tickets ($20 and $19 for Canaan and Timberline respectively). There are snowshoeing and cross-country skiing options; if you choose to do one of these, I will leave it to you to figure out logistics.

For the best deal, and fewer crowds, I’d like to head up during the week – leave Wednesday, come back Thursday. Since Timberline’s college price ticket is only available on Thursday, we will ski Canaan on Wednesday.

I will reserve a cabin in Blackwater Falls State Park, which is a half hour away from the resorts. My expectation is that it will be similar to the company houses at Cass. (Some people will need to bring a sleeping bag and pad). There will be a kitchen, so we can cook dinner and breakfast there. The more people that sign up, the cheaper it will be. If at least 4 people sign up, we should be able to do the trip for $25 a person.

You provide:
> Ski/snowboard equipment (or $ for rentals)
> $ for lift tickets + college ID!
> $ to cover lodging / food
> Sleeping bag & pad
> X-country skis / snowshoes if you opt for that over alpine skiing.

Club provides:
> Gas $ (up to $100 for Winter break trips – should be plenty)
> Food & Lodging $ (covers some of the costs)
> Sacrificial offerings to the snow gods
