Bonnycastle Circle
James River - Richmond
Join me to celebrate a wonderful new year with some white water boating and beer brewing: 2 of my favorite activities. The plan is to head out early to catch some regional flow (probably Richmond) and then you are welcome to join me at to my house for a brew session in my backyard. I’ll completely understand if you’re just down for the paddling portion of this adventure; you can indicate your plans in the adventure questionnaire.
PADDLING:
This is not a beginner friendly adventure. Depending on the river level and attendee experience level, I might run a beginner friendly section of the James, as well as an intermediate section, but regardless of the section the cold water temps make this an intermediate-advanced level adventure. We will most likely run just the downtown Richmond section but I am open to suggestions. The water is COLD so dress in non-cotton layers and bring your cold water paddling gear. And don’t forget water, snacks, a towel, and money for food on the drive home.
The Club provides: boat, pfd, skirt, paddle, helmet/noseplug, drybags, wetsuit, drytop, gloves, booties, and balaclavas/skull caps (limited quantity).
DISCLAIMER:
I am NOT “leading” this adventure, I am only coordinating some logistics and transportation to the adventure destination, you are responsible for your own safety and you need to read, agree to, and abide by the American Whitewater Safety Code: http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Wiki/safety:start?
Those with the appropriate skills may join as “Common Adventurers”
FYI in case you care to learn how to brew: As of now I plan to brew a Belgian style ale, probably a Dubbel, to be ready in a couple of months. It’ll likely be chilly so dress appropriately, though I will have a warm fire going that we can huddle around. The brew session will take ~ 4 hours, but you are welcome to come and go as you please.
**The details of the adventure may change, or the adventure may be canceled, depending on the weather/road conditions.
