Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
James River - Richmond
This full day adventure will start with the basics on flat water, which will include info about kayaks, wet exits, how to paddle and maneuver a white water kayak, T-rescues, and briefly, the Eskimo Roll. After practicing those skills for ~2 hours you will then test them in moving water as we navigate through the class 1-2 rapids of the James River above Richmond. No prior kayaking experience is necessary for you to join this trip, but you must be able to swim. Feel free to sign up no matter your level of experience. If you have your own boat/gear, and can transport it, you are automatically in. I need at least 1 driver to make this work so everyone will get put onto the waitlist upon signing up, then I will add the first driver to join and then everyone else in the order they signed up. Don’t get too discouraged if you are far down on the waitlist as folks tend to drop at the list minute. We will stop for lunch on the river so please pack food that can get smushed (like bagel sandwiches, pita, hard fruit, granola bars, etc).
The air temps will be mild but the water temps will still be a tad chilly so dress appropriately. I’ll send an email with further instructions and more details on Saturday.
You should bring: swimwear, change of clothes, towel, sunscreen, food/drink for lunch, 16-20oz bottle of water (it will fit in the boat), money to stop for food on the way home
The Club provides: ga$ (+ 30%, up to $10) for drivers, a ride to and from the adventure, kayak and gear (pfd, helmet, noseplug, paddle, spray skirt, neoprene booties) kayak/gear transport.
