OVERVIEW

This is a first timer paddling on a whitewater river friendly trip!

The only prerequisite is to know how to swim, and have taken the intro course with Myself, Dave Clark or have equivalent intro experience – which includes being proficient wet exiting and giving/receiving a T-rescue, as is covered in an intro class. (A wet exit demonstration at the putin may be required for any who allege to have prior experience but have not taken one of the club’s intro classes).

Weather forecast for Sunday 9/29 is Mostly Sunny with a high of 71. Water temp should be in mid 60’s. The club has a limited number of wetsuits and semi-drytops for those that get cold easily – Indicate in the Q&A if this is you. Everyone should BRING several NON-COTTON layers. Bring your own snacks and beverages for the river. A QUICK Sheetz stop can be accommodated on the way to the river for this. The club also has a limited selection of booties, but bring your own sandals or other footwear that will stay on and can get wet as a backup.

The Balcony Falls section of the James River near Glasgow, VA is the current intended destination (~3 hour round trip from C-ville), but this venue may be adjusted based on regional flow conditions – but time and skill wise remain the same. Read about it here: http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1949/
I will need at least 1 other driver (roof rack not required, but is nice) for this trip to work… The trip will be canceled if I do not get said driver, it may also get canceled for unfavorable weather or river conditions, or lack of interest. Everyone gets wait-listed till I get a driver, then I will move the first driver and then add names in order of those who signed up provided that they are qualified. I’m setting the initial trip max to 6 people as that is the number of boats and bodies that can be easily toted. I may expand it depending on the number of drivers and boat transporters and advanced paddlers that sign up. If you have a boat and gear and can transport it, you are automatically in!

DISCLAIMER/LEGAL:
I am NOT “leading” any river trips, I am only coordinating some transportation and logistics. YOU are responsible for your own safety and the activities you choose to participate in while on this trip. Additionally, all participants must have read and must agree to abide by the American Whitewater Safety Code http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Wiki/safety:start? for the duration of the trip.
All who participate on this trip agree to participate as “Common Adventurers”.

THE CLUB PROVIDES: Boats, gear, boat transport, (including dry tops, wetsuits, a limited selection of gloves and booties), gas for drivers.
YOU BRING: Bathing suit, Non-cotton layers, Large Towel, Sunscreen, dry clothes, Snacks/Drinks or $ to procure them, footwear that can get wet and stay on your feet.
TIMES:
I hope to have the roster finalized by 8 PM on Saturday, check back around then to see if you’re off the wait list or for other info.
I’ve indicated 8 PM as a return time Sunday – but I hope to be back much earlier than this (all depends on how much carnage there is, etc)
PRETTY PLEASE – DON’T BAIL THE MORNING OF, if there’s even a chance of you having to do this, don’t sign up! No shows not only deprive other fellow club members of an opportunity, but even more annoying is they cause excess gear to get checked out and lugged around on your behalf!
