OVERVIEW

Backpacking/Snowshoe Camping Adventure.
What: 15 miles of snowshoeing, 1 night of camping, 100s of memories.
When: This Saturday and Sunday leave at 9am get back Sunday afternoon.
Where: The closest AT to Charlottesville.

The weather looks sick on Saturday and Sunday, http://www.wunderground.com/weather-forecast/US/VA/Charlottesville.html
&
the snow will still be on the ground. So let’s go play outside. We’ll be heading out to Calf Mountain Hut.
http://www.hikingupward.com/SNP/CalfMountain/

We will take the AT, hike/snowshoe 7 miles to the hut (if you have ever snowshoed this is tough work), the hike promises pretty views. We will camp in the hut or in a tent if you want to carry one, and hike back 7 miles. So if you have never hiked or snowshoed ~15 miles in 2 days you might want to sit this one out.

We’ll leave Saturday morning bright and early, gear up in gear room, and drive out to Rockfish gap, hike/snowshoe for about 7.5 miles, camp, star gaze, and campfire and sleep. Then on sunday we will hike back on the same trail.

As the club doesn’t pay for food anymore, the cost of the trip is $10. This will cover dinner for Saturday night and breakfast for Sunday morning. You should bring lunch & snacks for both days.

This trip is open to those who have hiked before. Aside from the personal gear that you will need (list at end of email) you should bring plenty of layers. It’s going to be sub 30s at night so please bring enough clothes to stay warm. This is very important!

What you need to bring: backpack*, sleeping bag*, sleeping pad*, headlamp*, snowshoes* at least 2 liters of water, medications, lots of layers (hat and gloves, rain gear just in case), toiletries that you want(sunscreen), sturdy boots and gators if you have them, a spoon, bowl or tupperware, and a mug.
*these items can be checked out from the club. You can go to a gear room or pick them up Saturday morning.

I have space for four more people in my car, so until another driver signs up the trip will be capped at four people other than me. If you can come and can drive, please sign up!
