Blue Ridge Tunnel Hike

OVERVIEW

We will be hiking the Blue Ridge Tunnel trail. It’s a beginner friendly 4.5 mile out-and-back hike that goes through a historic 4700-foot tunnel. We’ll get to see some nice fall foliage on a gentle gravel trail before getting to the tunnel. There are also some plaques along the way that tell the tunnel’s history.

The tunnel has NO LIGHTING so bring a headlamp/flashlight. It might get chilly in the tunnel so be sure to dress warm. The trail is only 25 minutes away so we’ll leave early and be back in time for any late Friday classes.

Schedule:
9:00 AM – Leave Echols
9:30 – Arrive and start hiking
11:30 – Finish hiking
12:00 – Back at Echols or get dropped off where needed
(we’ll probably get back sooner than this)

Stuff to bring:
-Light source
-Warm clothes
-Water

I can drive, but it would be nice to have another driver to bring more people. The club will reimburse gas money and tip you 50%. The driver will get priority off the waitlist too.
