OVERVIEW

Training session number four! The American Canoe Association’s Collegiate National Championships are in two weeks (March 29th-30th), so we will be getting in one more day of training in before heading down to North Carolina for the race. See more details on the race at the below link:

The current plan is to go to the Maury River on Sunday. It’s about an hour and a half away and we will be paddling the lower section which is a fairly easy stretch of river, class I/II+. (See the link below for more information; we will be putting in below Wall Rapid) You should have either worked with me or taken an intro to whitewater kayaking course through the club prior to signing up, as you must be able to wet exit and T-rescue to come on this trip – You do not need to know how to roll. While on the river, I plan on working on rolls, paddle strokes, reading whitewater, and basic kayaking skills to prepare for the race.
If you have not taken a trip with me before and have questions about whether or not you should sign up for this trip, please email me!

An alternate plan is to go to the Balcony Falls section of the James River depending on water levels and interest. The skill level is the same for either river, and I will send out a final plan as it gets closer.

The water will be chilly! The club has some dry tops and wetsuits, so indicate if you will need any additional gear besides what you own to stay warm!! Even if you are borrowing club gear, you will still need SEVERAL NON-COTTON layers to wear on the river, shoes that will stay on your feet, and lots of warm clothes to change into after we get off the river.

I’m setting the number of attendees to 4 until I get more drivers signed up.

THE CLUB PROVIDES: Kayaks, paddles, any other paddling gear- Please indicate when you sign up if you will need to use the club’s gear. Gas $$ is provided for drivers.

YOU PROVIDE: Bathing suit, towel, WARM CLOTHES, a change of clothes, $$ for food or snacks, a water bottle, any paddling gear you own

TIMES: I hope to be leaving Cville around 11PM and returning around 6PM
