I wanted to lead a backpacking trip this weekend so I found a route. Should be totally doable for beginners (as long as you are comfortable with about 12 miles and 2500ft incline over two days). Anyway here is an itinerary that will probably not be followed super closely but it is good to kind of have a plan.

10AM sat: leave echols dorm
1130-noonish: arrive at trailhead
noon: start hiking, pace can be very slow we are in no rush (7mi)
4-5pmish: arrive at emerald pond (we can camp here or hike more)
hang out for rest of night, (we can swim but make sure you have change of clothes) (make spoons? if you have a swiss army knife)
wake up around 8amish sunday
hike the final 5 arriving at car by 11-12
go home
Things to bring
– Sleeping bag & pad
– Tent? (we can do friday gear room to figure this all out- please have your phone number in odc profile)
– Backpack
– 3-4L water (streams may be dry)
– Clothes you can hike in when it is 75 degrees
– Headlamp? probably a good idea
– Rain jacket if you’re paranoid (should not rain)
– Jacket? sweater? hoodie? should only be as cold as 55 so do what makes you comfortable
– Book? tiny board game?
– Food (aim for like 3000 calories or so) (candy is great btw)
– toiletries
I will bring:
Little jet boil for water (so if you want tea or oatmeal or whatever)
Cards
Bull gouge (for making spoons? if wood is available)
Water filter
Bungee cord
First aid kit
Toilet paper
