OVERVIEW

Fellow outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen,

This weekend the club shall awake from its summer slumber with a trip to the New River Gorge (NRG). The New River Gorge is one of the best outdoor recreation destinations in the nation. This trip will mostly be climbing centered, but if anyone else wants to take the initiative in doing other things, please be my guest. If you need ideas for other things to do, feel free to email me or the officers.

THE PLAN:
We will be staying at the American Alpine Club’s campground (details here: https://americanalpineclub.org/new-river-gorge-campground/).

Rough plan will be to leave from Charlottesville (or NoVa: more details below) on Friday sometime, set up camp, climb on Saturday, climb on Sunday, and get home by Sunday evening.

Beginner climbers are totally welcome. You do, however, need to know how to top rope belay if you plan on climbing.

I personally will be leaving from NoVa on Friday evening, so if you’d like to save on gas and smooch a ride from me, hit me up. Most people will probably be leaving from Charlottesville though.

Once people have started to sign up, I’ll send out a carpool google sheet with departure times, etc.

We may have communal meals, but be prepared to bring/cook your own food for Friday, Saturday and Sunday in case that doesn’t work out. Camping stoves will be provided by the club.

The club covers up to $10 per day for outdoors lodging. The AAC campground costs $12 per day per person, so please bring a few $1s to cover remaining costs.

If you’d like gas reimbursed + tip, you MUST have receipts, and you must have at least 3 people (or lots of communal gear) in your car. I will be bringing club reimbursement forms for all to fill out. Ask me about this when we get there.

GEAR:
If you need gear, please indicate on the trip questionnaire what you need and I’ll make sure its brought out there. If for some reason we don’t have a piece of gear you need (unlikely), I’ll email you as soon as possible to let you know.

Club can provide:
Tents, Water for cooking, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking gear, climbing gear, gas $$ up to $150 (for cars with at least 3 people! You must keep receipts!), $10 out of the $12 camping fee, headlamps, etc.

You Provide:
$2 for camping fee that club doesn’t cover, personal eating stuffs (bowl, spoon, fork, that kind of stuff), $ or food for the ride up, food/snacks, $ to pitch in if we have communal meals, toiletries, a dog if you have one, and at least 1 joke.

I will waitlist everyone initially and let peopel off based on driver capacity, belay skills etc.

Let me know if you have any questions!
