OVERVIEW

The Eclipse is nigh upon us!

Come out to the Wind River Range to join many excellent peoples of years past and other illustrious Club members to watch the celestial and astronomical magnificence of a total eclipse of the sun (!) in an incredible and beautiful location, on the Eastern edge of the Wind River Range.

But first, we will climb Downs Mountain. It goes right through Bomber Basin, which is named after a real bomber airplane crash, and then also get to summit a big mountain. It’s a three-day trip, about 24 miles total including a summit day. About 10mi in, a summit day, and then 10 out, getting to pass bomber basin, the bomber itself, bomber lake, and bomber falls. And it’s also a bighorn sheep habitat area, so good chance we could see some.

We will return back to the trail head on 8/20/17 and then caravan out from the Bomber Basin Trail Head to our chosen optimal spot for eclipse viewing where we will camp.

**Because of the nature of weather and the risk of occlusion of the eclipse (a cloud eclipsing the eclipse…a nebular eclipse?), we may have to move from our planned location several times. This trip covers gas from the Bomber Basin Trail Head, to the eclipse viewing site. This trip offers a description of the backpack before the eclipse that will depart 8/18/17 early in the morning; however this trip does NOT cover gas from the Gros Ventre Campground to the Bomber Basin trail head.**
