Corner o' Echols
back at echols!
Ivy Creek Foundation, Earlysville Road, Charlottesville, VA, USA
Looking for something to motivate you to get up early before classes on Friday? Come with us to Ivy Creek to look at some birds and try to ID what they are!
It’s an easy hike that goes out to the creek, with great views of waterbirds and plenty of other wildlife. On our last trip to Ivy Creek, we spotted almost 30 species! 🤯
Binoculars are available in the gear room, but there’s a limited number so if you don’t have your own binoculars or a camera, I recommend downloading the Merlin Bird ID app. It works like Shazam but for birds, letting you identify species by sight or sound. Make sure to download the local bird pack ahead of time, since cell service can be spotty on the trail.
And because it’s Halloween, I’ll be wearing my costume and you’re totally invited to do the same! (Bonus points if you come dressed as a bird 🦅)
Plan:
7:00 am – meet at echols
7:15 – 9:15 am – arrive at creek and look for birds (spooky)
9:30 am – back at echols
You bring:
– binoculars/camera or Merlin ID app
– halloween costume (optional)
– water
