OVERVIEW

*I won’t be able to make a final call on trail conditions until the week of (fingers crossed!)

“When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.”

Heyo, if you came to the outdoors club for alittle more of a physically rewarding trip this one’s for you. I’m planning on running another Iron Man this summer and nothing like a scenic 100-mile century ride to loosen out the old joints.
The Virginia Captial Trail is probably the most famous biking path in Virginia for it is wide and extremely scenic with great opportunities for beautiful pictures and little side adventures. It is incredible- well paved, wide, and alongside beautiful scenes of farmlands, woods, and rivers. The trail is well paved and isn’t accessible to cars so you don’t have to worry about student drivers turning you into a pancake. The beginning of the trail is in Richmond and goes all the way down Williamsburg for a total of around 50 miles where we’ll turn around and come back to Richmond for another 50 miles for a total of 100 miles, quick mafths. In addition as far as cycling is concerened this is probably a 1-star difficulty, super flat in most places.
If you’re worried about the distance it sounds more intimidating than it is. If you’re athletic enough to bike 10 straight miles you shouldn’t have a problem with this trip, however that being said, if you aren’t custom to cycling long distances like this, your butt and your legs will be out of commission for the rest of the day. If you don’t wanna rack up sack up and do 100 miles off the gun I’ll be doing more cycles of varying length as the year goes on so don’t feel rushed if you arent up for a challenge.
If you’ve made it this far I’m assuming you’re a beast who looks in the mirror and says, “man my quads are big”. Keep this mind, I’m not doing this ride for speed training so if you think you’re going to be sonic the hedgehog down to Williamsburg this trip isn’t for you, I’ll be doing more advanced cycling trips for people like that or those wish to work on form as the summer gets closer. Okay, now that we’ve laid the groundwork lets get to the itinerary. Keep in mind I left plenty of time for more breaks, picture stops, and any other time constraints. Also, the mile markers start at 50 and go down as we approach Williamsburg.

07:00 AM- Load the bikes in the car and hit the road jack, we can stop at a gas station for breakfast or you can bring your own for the car ride
08:15 AM- Get down to Richmond and stretch out the car ride sleepies.
08:30 AM- START the trail lets gooooo
09:15 AM- Stop at mile marker 42 for a bathroom break and to fix anything that needs fixing
10:30 AM – Stop at mile marker 27 to fill on water, eat snack, and to fix anything that needs fixing
11:15- stop for lunch, Cul’s Courthouse Grille, at mile 20 marker and take a rest
12:00- Hit the road again and finish the last leg of the first half
1:30- HALF WAY THERE, OOHHHH LIVING ON A PRAYER and TURN AROUND and break
2:00- Start the grind back, mile marker 1, its the final countdown
3:15 PM- Hit mile marker 20 and take a rest.
3:30 PM- Almost there, just a little further,
4:15 PM Stop at mile marker 27 for a break if needed
5:30 PM Hit mile marker 42 and take a water refill and bathroom break
6:15 PM Get back and load the bikes and celebrate because we’re champions
Drive back to Cville
*The is assuming we petal at a grandmas pace so in all reality we will most likely finish long before here but prepare for the worst*

You’ll need:
-Athletic clothes (temps will be low in the morning and you’ll generate plenty of heat) If you want my professional advice, wear a nice baselayer something to keep your arms from falling off but not impeding movement, a mid-weight jacket which could be a windblazor or something the wind isn’t going to kill you, athletic leg warmers or tights, a good pair of socks (nothing that will be too slippy in your shoe), and gloves. Keep in mind we’re going to be exercising and the day will warm up but we will be wearing backpacks so taking off layers is always an option, I rather you bring more layers than you need.
-Sturdy shoes: Sneakers are fine but most will do. Stiff, grippy soles are the name of the game plus good socks.
-Gloves: for grip/protection, but also warmth, anticipate it being cold when we hit Mach 1 on those bikes. I’ll have a few pairs to lend out, too
-(Optional) Glasses/sunglasses/ facemask: I’m telling you now if it’s below 50 out your nose and face isn’t going to be having a good time if left unprotected. I mean if you’re a titan it’s not required like I won’t be wearing face protection but it’s something to keep in mind.
-Water/snack. YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE SNACK AND WATER, I mean I’ll bring a ton snacks to share but a water bottle is a must
-Bike/Helmet if you feel like you can do it with your own mountain bike I won’t stop you but know your life will be much harder, a road bike is almost a must for this trip, also, don’t show up without a bike at all plz that would be awkward
*NOTE THE CLUB DOES NOT HAVE ROAD BIKES SO YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE CLUBS BIKES*
Money- For foods, snacks, and sporadic things

Club Provides:
-Helmet if you need one. If you show up without a helmet (it might be dumb and no one looks good in a helmet, I know) but I’m not going to let you come
