Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Riprap Hollow, Shenandoah Park
Let’s go on a 17 mile day hike on the Appalachian Trail! For those of you more familiar with the area, we’ll be hiking in the southern portion of Shenandoah National Park. We’ll start by Pinefield Hut, and end at the Riprap parking lot. There’s one big mountain (Loft Mountain) at the beginning, but the rest of the day is relatively flat (just a few bumps). Hiking experience is encouraged.
As far as logistics:
1) Bring food to energize yourself during the day (high in calories, fat, and protein). To give you an idea, I might bring Poptarts, a Clif bar, beef jerky, M&Ms, and a sandwich. And of course, bring lots of water (3-4 liters, if we don’t have a water filter).
2) We need at least 2 cars (for the start and end point), so drivers will get priority off the waiting list. (You will be reimbursed for gas.) I may expand the trip if we have enough drivers and interest.
3) I expect it’ll take 90 minutes to drop the two cars off, so if we meet at 8:30AM, we should be on the trail by 10AM. We’ll hike a faster pace, so we can get done before dark. (So, please be on time for this trip!)
