OVERVIEW

Update!
This year’s schedule of events has been released. For a description of what events will be happening at this year’s ALDHA Gathering, please see:

Has the thought of thru-hiking one of the country’s long trails ever crossed your mind? If so, join us at ‘The Gathering,’ an annual event held by ALDHA, the Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association. This is a great opportunity to learn about long distance hiking and get a glimpse of what life is like on the trail.

From the brochure:
“On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a full range of workshops and slide shows on long-distance trails and other topics of interest. Well-known hiking trails such as the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trail will be covered, as will many lesser-known ones. Thru-hikers who have just completed the A.T. are encouraged to attend their “fall homecoming” so they can catch up with other hikers they met along the way, and to pass on tips and other info for all the “dreamers” who are hoping to follow their footsteps next hiking season. How to hang a bear bag, pack a maildrop or tend to injuries in the wilderness are just some of the useful topics to be covered in other workshops being planned.”
