Alana and I were on Sarah’s epic SUP trip down the Rivanna, and it was so awesome that we want to do it again! This is a fun, chill, really easy whitewater intro trip to whitewater paddleboarding! The water is a perfect temp, you see awesome wildlife like turtles, herons, bald eagles, and you can practice maneuvering rapids on a SUP! We will explore about 4 miles of the Rivanna with class 1-2 rapids! But most of it is chill flatwater.
Did I mention this trip is hella chill? What better way to spend this totally normal, average Sunday?
Schedule:
12:00 PM – Meet in the Shrackyard (Shrack backyard, 116 Washington Avenue) and grab paddleboards and life jackets
12:10 PM – Drive to Riverview Park, where we’ll set up the paddleboards. We trip leaders go run shuttle as y’all inflate
1:00 PM – Start SUPping!
4:30 pm – Sometime around here, make it to our exit, pack up, and drive back!
What to bring:
– Swim clothes (swimsuit, maybe shorts and a T-shirt)
– Suitable river shoes that will not come off in the water
– A towel
– A change of clothes if you desire
– Water (and snacks if you want)
– A drybag for your stuff and a carabiner to attach it to the board if you want
I am a Wilderness First Responder, but that doesn’t mean I want to test out my skills! Everyone is required to be comfortable on a paddleboard and comfortable swimming in deep water. Everyone will also be required to at least have a life jacket on their board, if not worn on their body.
