Bonnycastle Circle
Walnut Creek Park
Let’s go play in the woods. And eat and drink (soda) and be merry. And celebrate that it’s time for Creekathon, the annual club wide picnic at Walnut Creek Park!!!
We have reserved one of the shelters at the park, complete with grill and picnic tables. The club covers all burgers (of both the meat and vegetal varieties), hotdogs, buns, condiments, and utensils, and everyone who comes brings an additional food item (salad, veggies, dip, chips, soft drinks, cookies, brownies, etc.).
BUT WAIT. This is not just a cookout, but also a mega-trip. The picnic is just the base camp for all sorts of outdoor shenanigans. Leaders set up trips before the cookout at the park or elsewhere (mountain biking, trail run, hiking, kayaking, outdoors survival skills, disc golf, slacklining etc. – again, get creative!), so you can rock out with an outdoor activity before chowing down with fellow outdoorsists.
Never been to Walnut Creek Park? It’s got loads of hiking trails, a large lake, and a disc golf course (yes, the club has discs). Check out more at the park website: http://www.albemarle.org/department.asp?department=parks&relpage=2744
Main departure for the picnic will be 1pm from BONNYCASTLE CIRCLE (note this is not the Brick Wall by Echols). Separate Creekathon trip leaders will coordinate transportation for their own attendees. Return to UVa Grounds will be on an as-needed basis, so don’t worry about getting back, as drivers will be returning at all times of the evening. Since Walnut Creek Park is ~10 miles away from Grounds we won’t be reimbursing for gas but we still need lots of drivers!
If you plan on coming separately (whether in your own car or you’ll be at the park anyway because you’re attending a trip) SIGN UP FOR THIS CREEKATHON TRIP ANYWAY so we know how much food to purchase. If you end up joining an adventure, come back and edit your response in the questions section to say that you are on another adventure. That way we can coordinate rides for those people not a trip.
Club provides: the main food groups of meat, bread, and condiments; a ride in a car (I’ll send out a list of the drivers and their riders a day or two in advance.)
You provide: an additional awesome food contribution, a smile
NOTE: No alcoholic beverages are permitted at Walnut Creek Park.
I leave you in peace and harmony. BUT GET EXCITED FOR THIS.
