A trickle down stream
You look in its beady eyes
And then realize
IT’S FINALLY TIME FOR THE FIRST OFFICIAL CRAWKATHON!!!! You may ask, what separates this day from a normal bi-annual Creekathon? Well, it’s National Crawfish Day, aka National Haiku Day, aka national cheeseball day, aka National Blah Blah Blah Day, of course. Come, join ODC in celebrating this once-in-a-millennium event at Walnut Creek (notoriously known as “The nut”) to celebrate your favorite crustacean. This will be an amazing opportunity to get out of your shell. Also, you will get VIP status and a lifetime supply of cheeseballs if you come dressed as a crawfish/lobster/crab/any other being with claws and a shell. The crawfish deity, known to most commoners as Ezekeil, requires you to bring your best crustacean-related haiku. If you do not abide, you will be put in his famous seafood boil.
We have a pavilion reserved to serve as the central base camp from 3:30 PM to 8 PM, FRIDAY, APRIL 17th. MANY A TRIP will depart from base camp: paddle boarding, hiking, frisbeeing, mountain biking, slacklining, kayak roll clinic-ing, and anything you could possibly dream up – trip leaders, go wild, the ‘Nut is the perfect opportunity to lead a trip. This is the one and only semi-annual! local! mega-trip! and practically everyone who signs up gets on the trip. As for FOOD, the club will provide a nutritious and sustaining meal to be eaten at base camp, snacks and refreshments included. If you would like to contribute some food to the feast, you are encouraged and will be thoroughly appreciated by your fellow club gremlins – but no pressure to do so! (Bonus points for bringing Shrimp). Ensure not to go to the middle of Walnut Creek, since the crew team is quite notorious for catching crabs.

LOGISTICS:
– EVERYONE who is coming should sign up for the main carpool (this trip) FIRST, before signing up for mini-trips. (The officers will use this info to decide how much food to buy). If you are coming separately from the main carpool, just let us know in the signup questions. THIS IS THE MAIN CARPOOL AND IS SIMPLY HOW WE FIGURE OUT DRIVERS!
– The main carpool will depart from the Student Activities Building parking lot (NOT Echols) at 3:30 PM. Please arrive at 3:15 PM. Once at the ‘Nut, all trips will depart from our pavilion-based camp.
**Drivers and Trip Leaders, we need you!!! If you have never led a trip before, Creekathon is perhaps the best environment to lead your first trip.
**Reach out to the officers if you need trip ideas or have questions! You can also look at past Creekathon trips on the website by searching “completed” trips for ideas!
******All Creekathon trips should be posted on the website, with Creekathon in the title. They should all be listed for April 17th. They should also have a question that asks if trip attendees are on the main carpool AND a DISCLAIMER: “You must be signed up for Creekathon to attend this trip.” For creekathon, it is perfectly OK to not be on trips as well and just hang out. But if you want to do any recreation beyond simply grilling and chilling keep your eye peeled for creekathon trips and post your own!******
– Once at the ‘Nut, everyone’s trips will go out from base camp throughout the day. Fret not if you need to be back to grounds early, as cars will be coming and going regularly.
– Walnut Creek is only 20 minutes from Grounds, so gas will not be reimbursed.
– Please garb yourself in appropriate attire, sign up for mini adventures for creekathon on the website, and bring a water bottle. If you have/play an instrument – bring it! If you want a picnic blanket, bring it! If you have a journal or some yucca to braid- bring it!
In conclusion, COME HANG and get creek-ed. Stay tuned for email announcements with specifics for carpooling and other Creekathon deets in the coming days and weeks!
