Corner Of Echols Dorm
Corner Of Echols Dorm
Old Rag Mountain, Virginia, USA
WOOHOO READING DAY. It has been a couple weeks since I’ve been hiking, and I’ve yet to summit Old Rag. I’m a big fan of rock scrambles, and now that the leaves have fallen, we should have great visibility through the trees. And the best part is, we don’t have to buy tickets anymore (until spring)!
We’ll be hiking the Old Rag loop. It is rated as hard, but we will keep a steady pace and I very much plan to take breaks. More details here:

There is no cost, because I have a SNP park pass, but if another driver and someone with a pass signs up, I can add a few more people. I will also monitor the weather for any nastiness, but right now it looks a-okay.
THE PLAN: Sunday, December 11th
– 8:00 AM: leave Echols
– 9:30 AM: Start hiking
– 3:30 PM: Back to parking lot
– 5:00 PM: Return to Charlottesville
BRING:
– Footwear appropriate for a rock scramble
– Rain jacket in case of unexpected rain showers
– Layers —> IT IS COLD! Don’t wear cotton and layer things you can progressively shed in case you get hot while hiking
– Daypack
– Snacks, lunch, and water
– Gloves (if your hands will be cold on the rock scramble)
