OVERVIEW

Join Club Leader / Officer Kit Guncheon, another participant, and a co-founder of this club for some advanced backpacking along the Beartooth High (altitude) Lakes Trail, on the border of Montana & Wyoming.

OVERVIEW: “This hike leads from the gentle lake landscape of the southern Beartooth Plateau into the interesting and extraordinarily varied raw terrain around the intensely glaciated peaks on the Continental Divide. An adventurous route for hikers who are well-acclimatized.” — Lonely Planet Hiking in the USA

DATES: On-trail September 15-20, 2016. As of the initial posting of this adventure, there is one spot open in a car driving out there departing Cville on September 10 (and taking in some scenery along the way); the ride home is full. Perhaps one person can join our carpool out there and fly home, or perhaps enough will sign up to create another carload.

ENDURANCE: Backpacking 6 days, 5 nights, 51 miles (includes trek to Castle Rock Glacier), plus any small optional side trips we decide together to take while out there. No re-supply while on trail. Peak elevation: 11,400 feet. Pace: minimum 3.0 out of 5; Leader Matt will discuss this with each prospective participant. Each participant will enjoy hiking at his/her own desired pace (at least 3.0) with others or alone as desired, and each will have a walkie-talkie for frequent contact with other participants.

PRE-REQUISITE: You must have completed at least 3 backpacking trips in the last few years.

FEES: none — just split shared expenses if there are any, and care for your own personal expenses. The club will not be covering your expenses, except perhaps partial reimbursement if several sign up and carpool.

This trip’s leader is a Wilderness EMT and Geo Medic, is the instructor of the Wilderness First Aid & CPR courses posted in the club, and will be happy to help anyone in need.

This trip will provide memories and views that will last a lifetime.
