Advanced Backpacking on Snowshoes

OVERVIEW

Dolly Sods, WV is one of the most beautiful mountain backpacking places around, with varied ecosystems and spectacular views. Come check out what it looks like in the snow! We’ll snowshoe with our backpacks on for 3 or 4 hours, set up camp, and snowshoe out the next day. I don’t have snowshoe backpacking experience and will be learning as I go, so this trip is open only to people who have a lot of backpacking experience (though experience in the snow not required) and a willingness and strength to learn.

Please bring lunch or lunch money for Saturday and Sunday. The 4 club bux fee includes Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast. The club has a few pairs of snowshoes for us to use for free but we may have to rent more, in which case we’ll distribute the cost evenly.

Waterproof boots are required, and cotton is not allowed — if you wear cotton and sweat while snowshoeing, it will get wet and then freeze you later on.
