OVERVIEW

***DRIVERS NEEDED***
Shuttle – (verb): to drive to the top of a trail and shred only the downhill, as opposed to climbing up yourself. Also known as: a roadie’s worst nightmare.

Just an hour and 15 minutes west of here is one of the best mountain bike descents in the state of Virginia: the Timber Ridge and Wolf Ridge trails drop nearly 3000 feet off the top of Reddish Knob in about 8.5 miles. Described by some as the creme de la creme
of biking in the George Washington National Forest, these two trails are an absolute blast to ride. Read more about the full loop here (ignore the road climb if we shuttle): https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7001381/reddish-knob-timber-ridge-to-wolf-ridge

***PLEASE READ***
This trail is a real VA backcountry descent. It has lots of rocks, is steep in spots, and there might not be cell coverage in some areas. THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER RIDE. Please only sign up if you are comfortable on a mountain bike, and are of intermediate/advanced level. That being said, you don’t need to be a pro to have fun on this trail. If you are comfortable hitting most of the Ohill trails, or have done some biking in GWNF before, then you should be fine. If you have questions/concerns, let me know in the trip questionnaire.

Plan A for this ride is to shuttle it, meaning we only do the descent. THIS REQUIRES AT LEAST ONE MORE DRIVER. The club reimburses gas and tips 50%. This trail is an absolute blast as a descent, and can be shuttled again relatively easily if others are up for it. Per shuttle lap, this route is 8-9 miles with ~300 ft of elevation gain (and 2900 feet of elevation loss).
Plan B is to ride up the road to the top of Reddish knob. This route is closer to 18-19 miles, and has around 3000 feet of climbing, mostly on a road (the only trail climbing is the same as if we shuttle). If you don’t want to do this and only want to do Plan A, sign up for the trip anyways and let me know in the trip questions.

**The Plan A – with shuttle** – this is just the descent portion of the link above
– 12:00 pm: Meet at the Shred Shack (116 Washington Ave.) and depart
– 1:30 pm: Arrive at the bottom of the trail, leave a car at the bottom and hop in the shuttle car
– 2 pm : Arrive at the top of the trail, blast down the trail
– ~3:00 pm: Get to the bottom of the trail
– Potentially shuttle a second round of the trail
– 4:30-6:30 pm: Get back to Cville
– The trip end time is set at 8pm to account for unforeseen delays, please don’t schedule anything before 8 (and I’d generally recommend against scheduling other super important things that evening in case we have a big delay)

**The Plan B – without shuttle** – this is the full loop linked above
– 12:00 pm: Meet at the Shred Shack (116 Washington Ave.) and depart
– 1:30 pm: Arrive at the bottom of the trail, begin climbing up the road
– 3:30 pm: Arrive at the top of the trail, take a break, blast down the trail
– 4:30-5:30 pm: Get back to the car
– 7 pm-ish: Arrive back in Cville
– The trip end time is set at 8pm to account for unforeseen delays, please don’t schedule anything before 8 (and I’d generally recommend against scheduling other super important things that evening in case we have a big delay)

**The Club Provides**
– Bikes/helmets (if needed)
– Bike racks
– Pumps, tools, etc

**You bring**
– Enough water
– Food (esp. if Plan B happens)
– Appropriate clothing/footwear – forecast is sunny with a high between the mid-thirties and high forties, depending on elevation
– gloves are recommended for keeping the fingers working in the cold and protecting your hands from scrapes if you fall – $10 Mechanix work gloves are great
– sunscreen?
