Has the thought of thru-hiking one of the country’s long trails ever crossed your mind? If so, I’d suggest joining us at ‘The Gathering,’ an annual event held by ALDHA, the Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association. This is a great opportunity to learn about long distance hiking and get a glimpse of what life is like on the trail. We’ll talk with people who have hiked the entire Appalachian Trail, watch presentations, and participate in workshops. The Gathering is held at Concord University in Athens, WVa. The registration fee is $10 for the entire weekend and includes nearby camping. Food is extra and will not be paid for by the club. I have set the departure time for 2:00 on Friday but am flexible. If you can’t make it at 2:00, sign up anyway and we’ll try to work something out.
Club Provides:
-Transportation: a seat in a car and gas if you drive
-Gear: Sleeping bag/pad, tent
You Bring:
-An eagerness to learn about The Trail
-money for food (friday’s dinner, all meals saturday and sunday)
-clothes for the weekend
-toiletries
