Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Riprap Hollow, Shenandoah Park
Are you free this Saturday? Let’s go hiking again! (For those of you who joined last week’s hike, we’ll start where we left off, and hike south.)
For those of you more familiar with the area, we’ll be hiking in the southern portion of Shenandoah National Park. We’ll start at Riprap parking lot, and hike south to Rockfish Gap (near the southern entrance to Shenandoah National Park). The topography has a few hills, but only one big mountain – Calf Mountain (which is pretty steep). We’ll hike Calf Mountain at miles 8-11.
Once again, we’ll need 2 cars to do this trip – one at the start and end points, so this trip will be canceled if I can’t get enough drivers. (Outdoors Club will reimburse you for gas.)
I expect it’ll take an hour to drop the two cars off, so if we meet at 9:00AM, we should be on the trail by 10:00AM. We’ll try to hike a faster pace, so we can be done before it gets dark.
Don’t forget to bring food to energize yourself during the day (high in calories, fat, and protein). To give you an idea, I might bring Poptarts, a Clif bar, beef jerky, M&Ms, and a sandwich. And of course, bring lots of water (3-4 liters, if we don’t have a water filter).
