Anti-Hibernation Hike! Strickler Knob

As members of this revered CIO we carry the solemn responsibility of a noble quest, a quest that takes us into the wild. That’s right, we all are commissioned into ACTIVE duty. Our current mission: fight the dreary winter doldrums in an Anti-Hibernation Hike to Strickler Knob, bringing friendship, laughter, and Hoos to the winter woods.

The forecast looks brisk and sunny. In regards to this knob, Allison from HikingUpward.com says, “My new favorite, or at least a top three!”

WHEN:

Saturday 1/16. We will aim to head out from Echols Brick Wall at 8:00 AM

WHAT:

We will head out around 8:00am, hit the trail by 10:00am, picnic lunch somewhere along the way, enjoy the fun rock scramble near the top, glory in the beauty of the land at the 360 degree view that the summit provides, clamber our way back down the mountain, and be off the trail ~4:30. Head back to Cville with a stop for dinner on the way back.

The hike is 9.1 miles. We’ll take a good pace, but we can accommodate hikers of all paces. It’s an out and back, so if you don’t make it we’ll just pick you up on the way back. (just kidding, kind of).

WHAT YOU BRING:

Water (2L)
Picnic Lunch
Layers – It’ll be cold at the top, especially if its windy! (hat, gloves)
Sturdy Shoes
Money for dinner (that is the $8 fee)

I’m capping the trip at 5 for now, but if any drivers sign up I’ll open it to more people.
