Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Arizona-Utah Desert
Does somebody want to join me for 2 weeks trip trough spectacular
canyons of Utha & Arizona?
We will take a plane from Dullas to Las Vegas, then rent a car in
the airport and drive east-north to Kanab and Paria Canyon.
If we will be lucky we will get a permit for
The Wave trial and go on it the next day, otherwise we will take
some other trail in Paria. Then we move to Zion National Park and
take Angel Landing round trip (may be a couple of others as well,
f.e. echo canyon). The next point in our journey is Choral Pink
Sand Dunes. Then – Bryce Canyon with Queen Garden and Navajo trials.
Then through Petrified Forest and Escalante we come to Capitol Reef
followed by Goblin Valley, then Arches with its Devil’s Garden
trial, Dead Horse Point, Canyonlands National Park with The Needles;
Gooseneck State Park, Monument Valley with a hike to Valley of God,
then we come to WATER – Powell lake, walking around we visit
Antelope Canyons and Horse Shoe. A culmination of our trip will be
Grand Canyon. Somebody who will not be exhausted to that point will
go through it descending at North Rim and ascending South Rim.
Than again: airport Las Vegas – Dullas – Charlottesville – sofa –
plenty of stories for friends.
I believe we’ll enjoy it ;).
So, we will hike a lot from easy trials like Queen Garden (1.6
miles only) till hard like Bright Angel/Kaibab through Grand Canyon
(~17 miles but with elevation over 4000ft). It would be better if
you had hiking experience before.
We will stay at campgrounds with first come first serve policy or
may be we will be lucky to reserve something more suitable in
advance. The point is that we are going to visit a desert and some
places do not have a shower and may have problems with water.
What do you need to have:
1. good heat resistance (we will be there in a summer)
2. a bottle or any alternate stuff for water
3. sun proof stuff (cream, glasses, a hat, proper clothes)
4. I think we will not cook (at least on a regular basis) but will eat
in restaurants or places like. But certainly it is good idea to take
some snacks with.
5. anything for your pleasure (cameras etc.)
Club provides: gear (tents, sleeping bags, vessels for water)
P.S. fee includes airplane ticket +1/4 car’s rent price
