Back to Classes Sunrise at Bearfence!

OVERVIEW

In honor of my first time leading a trip by myself, we will be recreating my first ODC trip ever: a sunrise at Bearfence! It’s less than a mile to the summit and involves a little bit of rock scrambling, which isn’t too strenuous. The trailhead is about 1 hr 8 min from Grounds, so the plan will be:

5:15 AM: Leave from Echols
6:25 AM: Get to the trailhead and start hiking
6:45 AM: Get to top of the rock scramble and bask in the beautiful panoramic views with (hopefully) our warm beverages
7:30 AM (but earlier or later, depending on what we’re feeling): Head back down to the parking
8:00 AM: Head back to Grounds
9:10 AM: Get back and go about our merry days

I’ve built in some extra time, so we should be back in time for people to get to 9:30 am classes. Bring a mug or warm beverage holder, and we can make some coffee or tea or cocoa on the summit. The most important thing to do is DRESS WARM. It will most likely be below freezing, so layers are your best friend. You may also want to bring a head lamp or flashlight for the hike up, since sunrise isn’t until around 7 am.

I will need one driver if we want to fill up this trip, so drivers get priority off the waitlist!
