Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Saint Mary's Wilderness
If you’d like a relaxed overnight trip with great swimming holes to cool off in St. Mary’s Wilderness might be the place for you. We will hike approximately 3 to 4 miles up the river that flows out of the Blue Ridge south of Waynesboro and find a place to camp by it’s edge. If the closer campsites are taken we might have to walk as far as four miles. Either way we are sure to be near amazingly clear water and pools of sculpted rock. If you have a trout license there are definitely fish to catch.
We will also cook out over a campfire and identify some wild edible berries, grapes, and other plants along the way. In the morning we will have some time for hanging out in camp or swimming before heading back. Sunday dinner and Monday breakfast and lunch are provided by the club as is gas money for carpooling and sleeping pads, bags, and a tent if you don’t have your own.
Please bring: Any camping gear you have that you can easily carry in a pack, such as sleeping pad, bag, tent. or tarp and your own pack.
