Backpackin’, S’mores and Starz

OVERVIEW

It’s Monday night and you’re staring at your computer screen despairing of life because the clock is ticking towards midnight and you’ve still got 10 pages of a paper to write. And it’s only Monday. You think to yourself “Self, what am I doing with my life right now?” And then like a shining star in the distant, dark night an email about a backpack for this weekend graces your email inbox with its presence. And so in the famous words of John Muir “The mountains are calling and I must go.” In summation: this weekend. Backpacking, s’more eating around a campfire and star gazing late into the night.

We’ll leave late morning on Saturday so your Friday night can still be fun and come back by early afternoon on Sunday so we can all do the typical Sunday cramming.

I’m gonna bring food to cook for dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. You should bring snacks as well as lunch for Saturday. We should be out in time for lunch on Sunday, but bringing snacks for Sunday would be a good idea.

For gear I’ll get the tents and stoves but you should bring all the personal gear which includes:

backpack
sleeping bag
sleeping pad
headlamp
sturdy hiking shoes
2L capacity of water carrying
lots of layers, including plenty of warm ones(!!)
lunch for Saturday and trail snacks

You can get the first four items from gear room. Since I didn’t post this before the gear room today, I can open the gear room on Friday afternoon if people can’t make the Wednesday at 5:30 time.

I’m capping it at 5 people until I get another driver to sign up. Drivers get off the waitlist first! Also, the small fee for this trip is for the food I’m going to bring.
