Dolly Sods
Who wants to do some summer backpacking? Don’t worry, it will be much cooler where we’re going. Dolly Sods is a wilderness area in the mountains of West Virginia. It offers a challenging hike, spectacular views, some wildlife, waterfalls to play in, and a chance to get out of Charlottesville for a weekend. The loop we’ll do is ~16 miles, and will be broken down into ~2 Friday night, ~9 on Saturday, and ~5 on Sunday. If we head out of C’ville by 5pm on Friday, we should be hitting the trail head at around 8:30, then be pirched around a camp fire by 10. There will be a pre-trip meeting at my place Thursday night at 9 to organize and pack up our gear, so please bring what you plan on taking on the trip.
Outdoors at UVa provides:
Backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, stoves, stove fuel, stuff sacks, some food
You must bring:
Water, some food, hiking boots, rain gear, bug repellant, sunscreen, appropriate clothes (try to avoid cotton), flashlight, TP (yeah, toilet paper), and some good camp fire stories!
