Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Wolfe Gap / Great North Mountain
We will begin our trip at Wolfe Gap- on the VA/WVA border. From here we will break out the headlamps and hike to the beautiful summit of Tibbet knob. The trail has some suprisingly steep sections, but is only about a mile and a half long. We will camp high- enjoying good food and good views from our tents. The next day, we will head back down the way we came and ditch our packs at the cars. From here we will hike about two and a half miles to Big Schloss (German for Big Castle). As its german name implies, Big Schloss is a huge rock outcropping atop Great North Mountain. The panoramic views are impressive. We will have lunch there and then return to Wolfe Gap.
This is a relatively easy hike- covering a total distance of only about eight miles.
