Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
George Washington National Forest
Pretty nifty backpacking trip to Big Schloss, while the leaves are awesome. We will do a short little jaunt in on Friday night (probably 2 miles) to find a good campsite, wake up refreshed, and do a 14 mile trip on Saturday. The path’s got some pretty good elevation changes (1,500 feet in 3 miles) and we will be carrying packs, but the views will be worth it. Camp at the top by Sugar Knob Cabin, then short four mile hike out on Sunday morning.
Club provides food, gear, and gas for drivers. If you don’t have a backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping pad or headlamp you’ll need to head to gear room this week. I’ll grab tents, cooking gear, and water filters.
You should bring other personal gear like water bottles, spoon, bowl, broken-in hiking boots, clothes –Make sure you bring some warm clothes like wool socks or a pullover fleece because the weather will be much cooler than here in cville, rain gear, medications, some money for food on way back.
I will limit the trip till drivers sign up and they will get priority.
Side Note: this trip is co-lead by Emily Evans who picked Big Schloss because “I mean it’s got a cool name”.
