Corner of Echols
back on grounds!
Elliott Knob, Virginia, USA
Hello friends! As late fall fades into winter, there’s no better time to get out there and do some beginner backpacking. Join me and Lucy as we soak in the last autumnal vibes at none other than ELLIOT’S KNOB next weekend. Elliot’s Knob is a 4-mile, mostly uphill hike to a super cool fire tower!!
Picture yourself drinking hot chocolate and watching the sunset over the mountains… watching the last blazes of golden light touch the late-fall foliage…. from your cozy sleeping bag in the fire tower… if this sounds like a dream, it’s not! it could be your reality next weekend!!
This is also a BEGINNER BACKPACKING trip- no backpacking experience necessary! we’ll help you get set up with everything you need & are here to answer any questions. also, if you want more backpacking info, go to evelyn’s workshop on Wednesday!!
While the backpacking is beginner, the hiking is not so much- The hike is 4 miles with 2500 ft of vertical gain, so we recommend everyone to be fairly comfortable with physically demanding hikes (both of us will definitely be winded, so don’t worry too much). The fire tower provides 360 views in every direction since elliot’s knob is one of the highest peaks in Virginia! We do want to warn that the trail is steep up to the summit– basically two miles straight uphill on gravel, and that you need to be comfortable hiking 4 miles with this much vertical gain. More info about the trail can be found here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/virginia/elliott-knob-trail.
