BEGINNER BOULDERING AT THE GREATEST BOULDER ON EARTH: THE QUANTUM DOT.

OVERVIEW

Heyyyyyyyyy. This is, in fact, the greatest boulder. Possibly of all time. A quintessential climbing spot, the Quantum Dot has brought the cville climbing community together since its ancient formation, and I’ve heard they’re raising the reservoir so its future is uncertain. This is a great place to try climbing for the first time, to try climbing outside for the first time, and to bask in the glory of The Dot just a brief 12 minute drive from grounds. The grades are all very chill if you can do a V1 in slaughter you can do something here surely.

This boulder is so silly. Sometimes the holds flake off right out from under your fingers but that’s no problem it’s kind of a fun little surprise challenge. QUANTUM DOT is great for a quick afternoon summer(? fall? what season is it rn? idk) trip of joy and serenity. Which is what we will be doing.

You don’t have to have climbed outside before to try this! This is great if you want to try outdoor bouldering for the first time! It might be good to have a previous understanding of how to fall, so if you have never indoor climbed before please let us know so that we can go over falling & spotting techniques with you before you get up there.

The Plan:
– meet at the corner of echols at 12:30, hit the gear room quickly to grab crash pads
– i drive us to QUANTUM DOT (12 min)
– approach is ~23 min of walking in the woods. very chill, very beautiful. it’s supposed to be glorious tmr
– climb climb climb yip yip yip
– walk back around 2:30, drive back home, should be back around 3

You bring:
– climbing shoes (don’t have your own? fret not. you can grab them from the gear room tomorrow morning)
– chalk (also at gear room. there’s also lots of great dust around this boulder if you don’t have chalk. i’m very serious)
– snack/late lunch/water?
– unbridled passion for the dot

We bring:
– crash pads
– you to the QUANTUM DOT
