Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Rocky Top Gym
Whether rock climbing is on your bucket list or you wanna roll with the cool, hippie climbers, this workshop will meet your demands.
This workshop is intended to teach zero to little experienced climbers the basics of climbing. After the workshop, you will be overly prepared to pass the belay tests given at the other indoor gyms and with a bit of practice, climb outdoors!
Topics covered:
-Choosing proper size harness and shoes (We will do this in the gear room)
-Tighten your harness and tie a knot
-Anchoring in and setting up the belay device
-Belay with an ATC using a safe belay technique
-Use proper commands
This workshop is NOT for the experienced climbers (except helpers) and I will not be teaching any specific climbing technique.
We will meet in front of Echols promptly at 6pm and crawl into the gear room to dress you up nice and purty. At the gym, you will be partnered with an awesome fellow club member. You will have some time to enjoy the climbs after some practice.
You Provide: 1+ Liter water, comfortable athletic shorts (medium length), nicely cut finger nails, funniest/dorkiest t-shirt you own, $7 to get into the gym (CASH ONLY!!!)
Club Provides: ride to RT (because the gym is so close, gas will not be reimbursed but the drivers will receive priority), climbing gears, new facebook friends
If you must withdraw, please do so immediately. No-shows will not be admitted to my future workshops. If you are certified to lead beginner workshops, I would appreciate your help. Folks who responded to my earlier email will also receive priority. Rock on!
