Seneca Rocks Trailhead, Seneca Rocks, WV 26884, USA
Nestled up in the mountains of West Virginia, Seneca Rocks is a lovely rock formation I haven’t hiked since I was a kid. The steep cliffs are among the most iconic in the state, rising 900ft above the North Fork River. This trip will be 1.3 miles (2.6 in and out total) walking uphill. The hike should not be too challenging, however I’ll ensure we have a leisurely pace to provide a beginner friendly trip. There won’t be too many views along the path given the thick trees, but at the summit there is an observation deck near the optional challenging rock scramble.
WHAT TO BRING: proper footwear, water, cash for lunch, and any snacks you may want.
WHAT I BRING: First aid kit, extra water.
HERE’S THE PLAN
6:30am: departing the shack, 2 hour 20 minute drive
9:00am: arriving at Seneca Rocks Trailhead, Seneca Rocks, WV 26884, USA
estimating about 2-3 hours of hiking, rock scrambling, and sight seeing
12/1pm: lunch at Yokum’s General Store & Grill (23787 Mountaineer Dr, Seneca Rocks, WV 26884)
Arriving back at UVA NLT 5PM
LOGISTICS
I will be borrowing a car and can fit two additional people. Beyond that, I’ll add whoever I can fit in with volunteer drivers. Drivers will receive waitlist priority, gas reimbursed plus tip up to $20. I have 3 friends outside of the club meeting us at the trailhead, if more than 7 ODC members want to hike than I will try to find an extra trip leader.
