Beginner/Intermediate Climbing at Reeds Creek

OVERVIEW

Hello outdoorsy friends, and welcome back to another fall semester! For those with minimal Friday commitments, I was thinking we could head out to Reeds Creek to get some good climbing in. Reeds Creek is a limestone area with a good number of moderately graded routes in the 5.8 – 5.10 range (see Mountain Project: https://www.mountainproject.com/area/109444384/reeds-creek).

While this is an intermediate climbing trip, I’ll be able to bring one or two folks who are new or new-ish to climbing assuming I get at least one other experienced person. With that said, Reeds Creek is primarily a sport climbing area, so if you’re a non-beginner climber, it would be great if you know how to lead climb, lead belay, clean anchors, etc. We will be able to set up some top ropes if we have some beginners though, so don’t let that deter you from signing up if you want to come.

Reeds Creek is a 2-2.5 hour drive from C’ville, so the plan is to head out early at 6:30am (folks can sleep in the car if needed) to maximize climbing time before returning to C’ville in the afternoon around 3:30pm. We’ll aim to get to the crag around 9am and climb until 1pm or so. You should bring all the personal gear you’ll need, along with water and some snacks/lunch.

– anchor building materials

YOU bring:
– harness
– helmet
– climbing shoes
– ATC + locking biner
– chalk + chalk bag
– PAS and/or other personal gear
