Beginner/Intermediate Kayaking at Balcony Falls

OVERVIEW

Let’s go paddle Balcony Falls on Sunday! This run is a mostly class II with one class II+/III rapid that is easily walkable if you don’t feel comfortable running it. Balcony is about an hour and a half away and is an awesome, beautiful run; I’m so excited to get back down there!

We’ll meet at Bonnycastle Circle at 8am, which hopefully should put us on the water by 10:30, probably putting us back in Charlottesville by 3.

This trip is suitable for anyone who has attended Dave Clark’s intro sessions at Walnut, felt comfortable there and wants to get out onto some whitewater. A roll is not a prerequisite, but comfort doing a wet exit is. You MUST have taken an intro kayaking course from Dave, Outdoor Rec, or the equivalent to come on this trip.

You provide: gear if you have it, bathing suit/clothes that can get wet, non-cotton layers to wear in the water–the water will still be chilly!, food/water, dry clothes and towel for after

Club provides: gear if you need it, gas $$
