OVERVIEW

As promised, I created another trip to allow those interested a chance to come and learn!

Disclaimer: This trip is almost purely instructional, but don’t you worry, it will be fun and a great midweek escape on the banks of the James River in Richmond!

The purpose of this trip is to increase your climbing IQ, so that you can confidently attend any club climbing trip and know that you have all the technical skills to participate. It can be intimidating to go on a trip when people ask you to “clean the anchors” or “jug them up” and you have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Hopefully, this trip will eliminate much of this!

Skills/Topics (essentially what a comment “second” knows)
-Putting on climbing gear
-Tying into the rope
-Top rope belaying
-Lead belaying with both an ATC and GriGri (very different from tope rope belaying and will consume most of our time)
-Cleaning a sport or traditional route
-Cleaning the anchors at the top of a route

This trip is open to everyone interested in learning to climb, even if you have never climbed before. If you don’t know what any of the above mentioned skills/topics are, even just one topic, sign up. You will probably learn something new about another.

I am making the trip size small just so everyone gets plenty of attention and time to practice. Don’t worry if these trips fill up, I will create more to meet the demand. I simply want everyone interested in club climbing trips to have these skills.

Things to bring:
-Belay device
-Climbing shoes
-Climbing helmet
-Climbing harness
-Water
-Money (if we decide to stop on the way back for dinner)
If you do not have any of this gear you should be able to get it from the club’s gear room.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
